NEWEST Medical Breakthrough: First-in-Class Topical Androgen Receptor Inhibitor

Blocks DHT from binding to hair follicle.  STOPS Hair Loss and Promotes Hair Regrowth

  • The long wait for a new drug to treat male pattern hair loss may be over. If you suffer from Male Pattern Baldness, TOPICAL CLASCOTERONE (Winlevi) may be the answer!

  • Clascoterone is the active ingredient, CB-03-01, developed by Cassiopea released under the brand names Winlevi and Breezula.

  • Currently only Winlevi is FDA approved in the United States as a new topical acne medication. Since both contain the same active ingredient, Winlevi can also be used to treat male pattern hair loss.

  • Winlevi (clascoterone) can be used alone or it can be used along with Propecia or Avodart, Minoxidil, Latisse (bimatoprost) and 2% Nizoral Shampoo

Male pattern baldness is hereditary and often starts with Men in their early 20’s noticing some hair thinning and progresses to a receding hairline and to typical baldness of the vertex and the anterior mid-scalp area. The primary cause of male pattern baldness, in genetically predisposed men, is due to increased levels of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is produced by the conversion of testosterone to DHT by 5 – alpha-reductase enzymes. Increased DHT binds to and activates the receptors on the hair follicle blocking the passage of vital nutrients essential for the hair follicle. This causes the hair cycle to become shorter and the hair follicle miniaturizes. The follicles gradually shrink and become miniaturized producing light-colored, fine vellus hair and eventually the hair follicle dies altogether resulting in baldness.

Winlevi (clascoterone) blocks the interaction of DHT and the hair follicle androgen receptor.  What makes clascoterone unique is that its mechanism of action does not influence hormonal activity in the body and is SAFE

      Winlevi (clascoterone) Information:

Winlevi (Clascoterone) works differently than finasteride or dutasteride to counter the effects of DHT on the genetically sensitive hair follicle. Both Propecia (finasteride) and Avodart (dutasteride) block the 5 alpha- reductase enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT.   As a result of blocking the reductase enzymes, finasteride and dutasteride decrease the levels of available DHT in the scalp. Therefore, Propecia and Avodart interrupt a key factor in the development of androgenetic or male pattern hair loss.  Propecia inhibits only the Type II 5 alpha-reductase enzyme, while Avodart is a dual acting 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor and inhibits both Type I and Type II 5 alpha-reductase.

Winlevi Clascoterone blocks DHT binding to hair androgen receptor

In contrast to finasteride or dutasteride, Clascoterone works on the DHT receptors in the hair follicle itself.  In other words, Clascoterone bind to the hair follicle DHT receptor and inhibits the existing DHT in the scalp from binding to the DHT receptors in the hair follicle itself. As a result, the DHT can not bind and activate the destruction of the hair folicle  and prevents further hair loss.  Clascoterone has been show to not only STOP hair loss, but also effective in promoting hair regrowth as well because it will stop and reverse the miniaturization proces of the hair follice.

        • Topical Winlevi (clascoterone) is one of the most potent topical anti-androgens essentially without any side effects.
        • Topical Winlevi (clascoterone) is SAFE and effective for use in men with male pattern hair loss and thinning hair.
        • Topical Winlevi (clascoterone) can be used in conjunction with Finasteride or Dutasteride, Minoxidil, Bimatoprost (Latisse) and 2% Nizoral shampoo to enhance it’s benefits.
        • Topical Winlevi (clascoterone) BLOCKS the DHT receptors on the hair follicle itself.  You will begin to see changes in scalp hair length, thickness and darkness gradually.
        • Winlevi (clascoterone) has been shown to not only STOP hair loss, but it is also effective in promoting hair regrowth as well.
        • A 12 month Medical Studies in 2019 showed that men receiving Clascoterone reported significant improvements in androgentic hair loss compared to placebo group.
        • Currently, Topical Winlevi (clascoterone) is only FDA approved for acne, but Medical Wellness Center will be prescribing it as an Off-Label for androgentic hair loss in men.

Although clascoterone is safe and effective in both men and women, Topical Winlevi (clascoterone) is being prescribed for MEN only with male pattern baldness since hair loss in women can be indicative of a serious underlying medical condition!

        Topical Winlevi (clascoterone): FAQ

WHAT IS MALE PATTERN HAIR LOSS?

Male pattern baldness,  androgenetic alopecia, is a very common condition in which men begin to experience thinning of the hair on the scalp.  These changes often start slowly in men in their 20’s and often progress to a receding hairline and/or balding on the top of the head. Male pattern baldness is believed to be hereditary and dependent on hormonal effects. The primary cause of Male Pattern hair loss and baldness is due to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is produced by 5-alpha reductase conversion of testosterone to DHT. Men with male pattern baldness have increased levels of the hormone DHT and the hair follicles in the balding areas of the scalp become miniaturized.

        WHAT IS Winlevi (clascoterone) ?

Winlevi (clascoterone) a milestone breakthrough androgen receptor blocker developed by the Italian pharmaceutical company, Cassiopea.  Clascoterone was developed under the code name CB-03-01 and is being released under two brand names:  Winlevi is FDA approved in the United States for acne, and Breezula is still in testing as a topical scalp androgen receptor blocker to treat male pattern hair loss.  When applied topically as directed, Winlevi (clascoterone) blocks the existing DHT in your scalp from damaging the hair follicles, while Propecia or Avodart prevent new DHT from being produced from testosterone.

HOW DOES WINLEVI (CLASCOTERONE) WORK TO TREAT HAIR LOSS?

Winlevi binds to androgen receptor in hair follicle and prevetns DHT from bindingWinlevi (clascoterone) works as  an anti-androgen DHT blocker. When applied topically, clascoterone penetrates the surface of the skin  and binds to the androgen receptors in the hair follicles.  Unlike DHT, when clascoterone binds to the androgen receptor it does not activate the receptor and it inhibits the binding of DHT. In contrast, when DHT binds to the hair follicle receptor, it blocks the passage of vital nutrients essential for the hair follicle.  As a result, DHT shortens the hair follicle growth phase. The follicles gradually shrink and become miniaturized causing the hair shaft to become progressively finer in texture ultimately producing thin, short, pigment-free fine vellus hairs. Eventually the  hair follicle dies altogether resulting in male pattern baldness. Therefore, clascoterone works to prevent the existing DHT in the scalp from causing further hair loss by binding to the DHT hair follicle receptor, and slows  the progression of hair loss caused by androgenic alopecia.  Male pattern hair loss is hereditary and genetically only the hair follicles on the top of the head have these DHT receptors resulting in the typical male pattern hair loss, androgenetic alopecia.

WILL WINLEVI (CLASCOTERONE) WORK FOR ME? WHAT ARE THE INDICATIONS?

Winlevi (clascoterone) will not restart hair growth in areas where the hair follicles are completely dead and gone.  It will only thicken and stimulate the growth of working hair follicles.  Therefore it will work to save the hair you already have and thicken it and enhance its growth.  So if you already have a long-time established bald patch with absolutely no hairs, not even a few fine hairs, clascoterone will not regrow the hair, but it will stimulate growth and thicken hairs in the surrounding areas.

        HOW IS WINLEVI (CLASCOTERONE) SUPPLIED?

Clascoterone, the androgen-receptor blocker, is supplied in 1% 60gm tubes under the brand name of Winlevi, FDA approved for acne.  Eventually, the pharmaceutical company will release a clascoterone cream specifically for hair loss under the brand name Breezula. Both Winlevi and Breezula contain the same active ingredient, clascoterone.

WHEN AND HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO APPLY WINLEVI (CLASCOTERONE)TO THE SCALP?

Winlevi is to be applied to a dry scalp twice a day, morning and night. There is no right or wrong way to apply Winlevi (clascoterone) topically for male pattern baldness. The cream can be applied to the scalp only in the affected problem areas, or can be applied more widely to adjacent scalp areas to preserve the hair as well.  It works best in areas of the scalp where the hair is thinning.  Just as with any other hair loss medication, applying to slick bald areas will not likely help as the follicles may be completely dead.   Apply a pea-sized amount of Winlevi on your fingertips.  Rub your fingertips together and then apply a thin layer to your scalp and massage into the desired areas in a gentle, circular motion. Repeat these steps until you have applied to all the desired scalp area.  If you are also using topical minoxidil, apply topical Winlevi and topical minoxidil separately.  If applied simultaneously, the two can possibly react with each other.  They can be applied fairly close together in time, but not simultaneously.  One should wait until one application is completely dry before applying the second.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO NOTICE RESULTS?

Since hair grows very slowly, it takes approximately 3 months to start to notice the effectiveness of the drug treatment. Hair regrowth does not happen overnight. Due to the hair growth cycle, it can take a while, at least 3 – 6 months, to even start to notice improvements. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see improvements right away.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO USE TOPICAL WINLEVI (CLASCOTERONE)?

Male pattern baldness is a life-long, chronically-progressive condition.  The underlying predisposition to hereditary male pattern hair loss is always present.  Regardless of the dramatic effects you may experience from prescription treatment, you must continue to use this medication regularly.  If you stop the treatment your genetic predisposition to baldness will result in eventual loss of the new hair re-growth and progression of further hair loss within a couple of months. With regular use you will continue to experience thickening and regrowth of your hair.

CAN TOPICAL WINLEVI (CLASCOTERONE) BE COMBINED WITH OTHER HAIR LOSS TREATMENTS?

Topical Spironolactone Prescription blocks DHTYes, but don’t use at the same time. It is best to introduce one at a time in case you get scalp irritation you can identify which product is the cause. Topical clascoterone is one of the most  potent anti-androgens effective for male pattern hair loss. Furthermore, it can be used in conjunction with other treatments creating a synergistic effect – blocking and decreasing production of DHT, blocking the DHT androgen receptors on the hair follicle, extending the Anagen growth phase and stimulating regrowth:

        • Propecia or Avodart are 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors and prevent the conversion of testosterone to DHT.
        • Minoxidil works by increasing the blood circulation to the hair follicles which increases the mass of the hair strands causing it to appear thicker as well as extend its growth cycle.
        • Latisse (bimatoprost) works gradually and remarkably from the inside out.  You will begin to see changes in scalp hair length, thickness and darkness gradually. Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analog and is believed to affect the growth of hair follicles by increasing the ratio of hairs in the growth phase of the hair cycle and extending this phase.
        • Ketoconazole, 2 % Nizoral Shampoo, has been shown to be effective as a Hair Loss Remedy for Androgenetic alopecia. Studies published in 1998 and presented at the American Academy of Dermatology show that 2% Nizoral shampoo increases hair thickness, decreases hair shedding and increases the number of anagen-phase hair follicles on the scalp (growing hairs)

WHAT IF I FORGET TO APPLY WINLEVI (CLASCOTERONE)?

If you miss a day, don’t try to catch up.  Instead just apply it like normal the following day.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF TOPICAL winlevi (clascoterone)?

When applied topically to the scalp, Winlevi (clascoterone) appears to have only a localized effect binding to the androgen-receptor in the hair follicle and surrounding sebaceous glands.  Clascoterone is not systemically absored, does not affect hormone activity in the body, and does not have systemic effects like adrenal suppression.  Clascoterone is quickly metabolized to cortexolone which appears naturally in all human tissues and cells. and does not cause any harm to the body. Topical clascoterone has been shown to be highly effective in the treatment of androgenic alopecia and the side effects were minimal to non-existent.

WHAT IF I EXPERIENCE SIGNS OF ALLERGIC REACTION?
